5 Sep – Admin Matters and Rendang (sedap!!)

I've many good things to say about Grenoble!

Firstly, it’s beautiful! We’re surrounded by chains of majestic mountains which will become snow-capped come winter. Condillac is quite an ideal location as it is served by 2 out of the 3 tram lines in Grenoble. It takes just 15 to 20 minutes to reach the city centre by tram. My school is just 1 tram stop away so I can reach my classroom within 15 minutes of stepping out of my room (which is a fantastic compared to the amount of time I take traveling from home to NUS). During the peak hour, trams arrive within 3 minutes of the preceding one. Food’s great too! Love the cafeteria food! For 2.80 Euro, you can get starters, a main course, a dessert and a small baguette. Btw, they call the cafeteria here RESTAURANT Universitaire. Haha)

However, I do have one complaint. The French admin is terrible! To get enrolled as an exchange student seems like a relatively easy process but we were directed from one person to another (the offices aren’t exactly very close to each other). So we had been running around for the past two days trying to locate someone who could help us register for our modules and to give us the info we needed. An incredibly trying process in part due to the staff’s early knock-off times. Some only receive students on Fridays (then why does your job title state correspondant for International Students?!)

But of course, good food always does chase the blues away! Had a wonderful rendang dinner thanks to Andi’s instant rendang sauce (brought all the way here from Indo!) Haha. We cooked a halal portion for Chaouki and Zouheur our African neighbours. We couldn't find any halal beef in the supermarket so Chaouki went to get it but the only halal beef he could find was minced beef! Haha! So it was a pretty bizarre kinda rendang hoho.

Chaouki's delighted! (i hope)

With red wine and rendang

Zouheur caught in the act!
