26 Dec 07 - Lugano Day 3 (Monte Brè)

Monte Brè is known to be one of Switzerland's sunniest points and was the only mountain in the Ticino (Southern Switzerland) region opened for visiting. It's a pity as according to travel guides, Monte San Salvatore and Monte Lema would be well-worth visiting.

To get to the top of the 925m peak took 30 minutes, using a combination of 3 funiculars. En route, we feasted our eyes on the panoramic view of the city down below, the neighbouring mountains and of course the lake. We even spotted a fox which ducked right back into the bushes as the funicular passed. There were homes built directly next to the tracks of the funicular so we could peer right into them. Speaking about no privacy!

Once we arrived at the top, I just shut my eyes to better soak in the serene haven before me, where the chirping of birds filled the air. The surface of the lake was virtually still, save for the occasional boat that left trails of white in its wake.
