Have settled down considerably well, bought the daily necessities (cooking utensils, my cool trusty broom - haha and a lamp to avoid having to turn on the noisy light). Bank account - check, mobicarte (prepaid SIM card) - check, applied for lodging aid - (the french have this organisation called the CAF which will help to subsidize rent and is opened to ALL students - how cool's that) - check and best of all, I got myself a new camera! Bought the most value for money one in FNAC (similar to our HMV). It's an FX 10 which cost 179€ but I had a free 40€ gift voucher (a gift from the bank with the opening of an account) so paid a little less than 300 SGD. Not bad la, was already expecting to be paying thru my nose for that.
So voilà! Now I can go all trigger-happy again!
The food shelf in my room (hoho)
The view from my window - The falling red leaves lining the sidewalks, just my ideal image of autumn
The aftermath of a rainy spell - Cars covered with leaves
Caféteria Food
And now for the ugly:
1) Lessons are living nightmares! I emerge from each lecture feeling like my brain had been battling in a wrestling match - and had lost. The language obstacle that I had thought I would be able to overcome is proving to be an enormous stumbling block. The fact that some profs are perfect manifestations of iciness didn't help. This particular lady prof from my electrochemistry module was the worst. When I merely enquired if there were notes or recommended texts after the lecture, this is what I got: Minimal eye contact, absolute disinterest and utter rudeness. Bleah... But I've gotta say this prof is the minority. For the most part, the French profs are very nice and willing to help.
2) The weather! It's been un temps de chien (literally: a dog-like weather haha). The rain just KEPT ON pouring such that the temperatures dip to a low of less than 10 degrees (and it's still supposed to be summer!) Fell sick twice due to the weather and my lousy resistance (thanks to my mostly sedentary lifestyle back in Singapore haha)
On the other hand, the weather seems to be looking up for the next week according to the Méteo, so it's fingers crossed!
